Area not-for-profits invited to discuss impact
Utica, NY – In light of the continuing federal government’s partial shutdown and its local impacts, The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties is preparing to convene a meeting next week of agencies and not-for-profits to discuss the effects on their clients and constituents.
“We’ve been hearing from our partners in the community for some time about the increasing uncertainty and concern, and the growing possibility of substantial impact on many in our community,” said Alicia Dicks, president/CEO. “Bringing together not-for-profit organizations and agencies for a candid conversation will become an absolute necessity if this situation continues.”
Among the organizations invited to take part in the discussion are the CNY Veterans Outreach Center, Hope House, the Mohawk Valley Housing and Homeless Coalition, the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees and the Utica Rescue Mission.
“Congressman Anthony Brindisi plans to send a representative to hear first-hand how the shutdown is impacting local agencies and the people who are affected by it,” said Jan Squadrito, the Community Foundation’s senior community investment manager. “Helping our not-for-profit organizations deal with the impact on them and their constituents is the Community Foundation’s main goal. Sharing information about this situation’s local effects among these organizations and agencies can only help.”
The date and time of the meeting will be determined based on the availability of the invited organizations, Squadrito said.
