Clinton Square tree lighting to resume in-person this year

The annual “Home for the Holidays” tree lighting in downtown Syracuse will return as an in-person event this year, according to a press release from Mayor Ben Walsh Wednesday.

The tree lighting was held as a virtual event in 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns, and this year, a virtual option will still be made available for people who would like to remain at home.

“After everything our community experienced this past year, we are thrilled to be returning to an in-person ‘Home for the Holidays’ celebration that embodies the true holiday spirit of Syracuse and all that we represent here in our great city,” Mayor Walsh said in the press release. “After last year’s online success, we thank Cumulus Media for producing a digital version once again this year so residents can choose a viewing option that works best for them.”

The tree lighting ceremony will take place on Friday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. in Clinton Square.

The virtual tree lighting video, produced by Cumulus Media, will be available on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at SyracuseTreeLighting.com.
