Chair of Madison County Board of Supervisors discusses mask mandate

Several upstate counties have said they would not enforce the mask mandate that the Hochul administration will put into effect on Monday, Dec. 13.

One such county leader is the chairman of the Madison County Board of Supervisors, John Becker, who told Capital Tonight that Madison County simply doesn’t have the manpower to enforce a mask mandate.

“On Dec. 2, the governor said a mandate for masks in upstate New York would be virtually impossible to enforce. And here we are on Dec. 10 and she’s saying she’s going to mandate this. We don’t have the manpower in Madison County to enforce this,” Becker said. “We recommend it. We recommend everybody gets the vaccine. We recommend that they wear their masks, but cannot enforce it.”
