Boonville Fair Fireworks Rescheduled to Friday After Storm Threat
The popular fireworks show will now light up the fairgrounds Friday night, joining a packed day of rides, agriculture, music and family entertainment.
The Boonville Fair fireworks scheduled for Wednesday night have been moved to Friday, July 31, because of expected inclement weather. The display is now scheduled for approximately 9 p.m. and will remain included with regular fair admission, giving families another opportunity to enjoy one of the week’s most anticipated traditions.
Fair officials announced the change Wednesday as unsettled weather affected parts of New York and raised concerns about outdoor events. The official Boonville-Oneida County Fair website now states that the fireworks have been rescheduled, and the updated daily calendar lists the show for 9 p.m. Friday.
“Due to the forecast for inclement weather, the Boonville-Oneida County Fair has rescheduled tonight’s fireworks display to Friday evening, July 31, to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for guests,” fair representatives said in a news release.
Boonville Fair Fireworks Move to Friday Night
The fireworks had originally been planned for Wednesday, July 29. Fair organizers said the decision to postpone the display was based on safety and the comfort of visitors.
Outdoor fireworks displays depend on suitable weather. Rain, lightning, strong winds and wet conditions can create risks for crews preparing the show and for spectators gathered on the grounds.
The revised schedule gives visitors a clear plan:

Agriculture remains at the center of the Boonville fair’s identity. Friday’s scheduled events include:
- A 4-H horse show featuring gymkhana and mounted games at 9 a.m.

Friday’s entertainment schedule also includes several popular fair attractions.
The 4-Wheel Truck Pull is scheduled for noon. The Mohawk Valley Pro Pulling League truck pull is set for 6:30 p.m. The Coleman Brothers midway opens at 2 p.m., with Midnight Madness beginning later in the evening.
The acoustic group Where’s Bella is scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. The rescheduled fireworks will follow at approximately 9 p.m.
That lineup gives guests the option of arriving early for agricultural events and children’s activities, or coming later for truck pulls, music, rides and fireworks.

Moving a major outdoor event can disappoint families who planned to attend Wednesday. Still, postponement is often the safest response when storms are possible.

The fair closes Sunday, Aug. 2, with two demolition derby sessions scheduled for 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
According to Oneida County Tourism, the fairgrounds are about 30 minutes north of Utica, making the event a manageable day trip for many Mohawk Valley families.
