Binghamton Columbus Day festivities begin Monday

Many events were put on pause during of the pandemic, including a 60-year-old Binghamton tradition, but now it’s coming back.

The annual Columbus Day Parade, Tournament of Marching Bands and Italian Festival are all happening Monday. Festivities begin at 9 a.m. with a flag raising outside City Hall.

The Italian festival runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the parade starts at 10 a.m. near the intersection of Main and Arthur streets. It will then proceed east toward Main, where you’ll see marching bands from several schools.

“It’s an opportunity to showcase local bands, the city and a festive time to highlight Italian-American culture and heritage, of which the city of Binghamton hosts a very large and active Italian-American community,” said Binghamton Mayor Rich David (R).

The mayor also says the Binghamton Police Department will have a strong presence downtown to make sure the event is a safe one.
