Prevention Greater Central New York Chapter Welcomes Two New Board
Members
Robert Green and Elayne Campoli Bring Diverse Experience in Mental Health Advocacy, Community Leadership, and Suicide
Prevention
NEW YORK (August 11, 2026) – The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Greater Central New York
Chapter is pleased to welcome Robert Green and Elayne Campoli to its board. Together, they bring diverse professional
experiences, strong community connections, and a shared commitment to advancing suicide prevention and supporting
mental health throughout Central New York.
Green joins the board as a Certified Recovery Peer Advocate and New York Certified Peer Specialist. Through his work,
he has seen the profound impact suicide and metal health challenges can have on individuals, families, and
communities. His desire to expand awareness, reduce stigma, and support suicide prevention efforts inspired him to
become involved with AFSP.
“AFSP’s mission represents hope, education, and connection,” said Green. “To me, it means working together to
save lives, support those impacted by suicide, and ensure no one has to struggle alone.”
As a board member, Green looks forward to bringing his lived experience, recovery and mental health background, and
community connections to strengthen advocacy, outreach, education, and support. He hopes to increase awareness that
substance use disorders and mental health conditions often go hand in hand, strengthen community partnerships, reduce
stigma, promote education, and help connect more people with lifesaving resources and support.
Outside of his board service, Green enjoys gardening, caring for his many houseplants, exercising, acrylic paint pouring,
music, theater, traveling, and spending time with his cat, Drama. He also volunteers with the Center for Family Life and
Recovery and Friends of Recovery New York, supporting recovery and community advocacy efforts.
Campoli has been involved in suicide prevention for many years, beginning with participating in Out of Darkness Walks
and supporting prevention efforts through her church. More recently, she has worked with Suicide Awareness For
Everyone (SAFE) Ostego and Oneonta Thrives to raise awareness of mental health issues throughout her community.
Joining AFSP Greater Central New York Chapter Board is a meaningful next step in her continued commitment to suicide
prevention.
“My values center around love, and I believe in the worth and dignity of each and every person, so the mission to save
lives and bring hope speaks deeply to me and the work I choose to pursue,” said Campoli.
