Albany program raises thousands to buy gifts for families in

The Albany County Legislature partnered with the Albany County Department of Children, Youth and Families for the 35th annual Adopt-A-Family program.

The event raised $3,000 to buy hundreds of gifts for families in need this year.

Gifts were collected and donated to the South End Children’s Cafe in Albany Friday.

Twenty families will be receiving the gifts from this year’s donation, which comes out to almost 100 kids.

Tracie Killar from the Children’s Cafe says times are tough for a lot of families because of the pandemic, but so far, residents have done a great job of helping others.

“So I think if we continue to take care of each other, whether it’s finding a nonprofit that you really love or an agency that you can donate to or volunteer at, that’s how we are going to get through this, not just COVID but life is by working together and coming together,” Killar said.

This holiday season, the Children’s Cafe is giving around 2,000 gifts to more than 200 children in total.
