As part of a national call for “No Work, No School, No Shopping,” Utica residents will gather to honor the historic struggle for the eight-hour workday and advocate against the  “billionaire agenda” that has spiked the cost of living and slashed public budgets.

“Citizen Action has a proud history of sponsors these events in Utica,” said John J. Furman, a local Citizen Action volunteer . “This year, we aren’t just celebrating history; we are making it. We are standing together to protect our immigrant neighbors, protest authoritarianism, stop cuts  to health care, housing, and food assistance. and demand that our families—not billionaire fortunes—come first.”

The event will feature a vibrant mix of education, art, and mutual aid, including:

• Solidarity Supper: A community meal with free food items available for those struggling in our community.

• Art Build: A hands-on workshop where attendees will create banners and signs to carry our message forward.

• Teach-In: Interactive sessions on local labor history and the power of organizing.

• Live Performances: A growing lineup of musicians, singers, dancers, and actors performing “Guerrilla Theatre” to bring our stories to life.

Speakers for the event include Shatasha Edwards, Gianni Notaro,Pastor Jamina, Sonia Martinez, and Ace Morale..

Performers will be Carson Murphy, Cassandra Harris Lockwood & Bob Heins, Paul Whitney,  J Easy, and youth dance group. Sound will be provided by Dr. Duss. Maypole dancing will be available.

The movement is still growing! We are actively seeking speakers, artists, and performers who want to lend their voices to the cause of labor history and immigrant rights. Whether you are a singer with a song of protest or a speaker with a story of solidarity, we want you on our stage.
