The Mohawk Valley Institute for Learning in Retirement (MVILR) is a non-profit organization that has provided opportunities for local seniors to “learn, live, grow, move, think, socialize, and create” since 1996. We are now preparing for the upcoming Fall Semester.
The MVILR Open House and Health Fair will take place Thursday, September 12, from 10AM – noon in Plumley Center Room 150 on the Rome MVCC campus. This provides an opportunity to learn about MVILR’s class offerings, and to register for membership and fall classes. In our 8-week Fall Semester, which runs from September 23 through November 15, we offer 44 classes for our members. In addition to our academics (science, literature, history, law, religion, etc) there is a Be Fit strength and balance class, several music options, crochet and card-making crafts, and acrylic, pastel, watercolor, and drawing arts classes, as well as clubs (Pickleball, Opera, Movie Lovers).
We continue to offer our Special Programs series in conjunction with the MVCC Cultural Series, featuring guest speakers from the community, on Wednesdays at 10:45. This program is open free of charge to the public. The newest addition to our program is Music Mondays, a lunchtime concert series (12:30), also free and open to the public. Performers include 9/23 Monk Rowe and Liz Simchik, 9/30 the Doc Woods Quartet, 10/7 Opus Black, and 10/14 Rick Compton Jazz Trio.
The Fall Catalog is available on the MVILR website at mvcc.edu/mvilr. For more information, contact program coordinator Shawn Essafi at sessafi@mvcc.edu or 315-334-7761.
