Melodie Viele is taking romance to new heights, nearly 2,000 feet to be exact. But the love connection isn’t for her, it’s part of a scenic flight package that Leaf Air Academy is offering to couples this Valentine’s Day.
They’ll to see Lake George like they’ve never seen it before, they’re also partnering with local restaurants like the Log Jam for an all-inclusive date night after landing.
“It’s such a great combination,” Colleen Senglaub, The Log Jam social media manager, said. “You get to do the scenic flight and then come in for a romantic dinner and it’s a great deal. It’s a great way to have a really fun date night.”
The flight special is one of the many programs Leaf Air offers to get everyday peoples curiosity of flying off the ground.
Viele has spent thousands of hours in the air and many years in the pilot seat.
“We do flight training, so the first day out you will take the wheel and do some maneuvers,” Viele, Leaf Air’s pilot and instructor, said.
She says programs like their annual Women in Aviation Week coming up in March are vital.
“It’s only something like 6% of the [female] population flying right now, so it’s a big potential for more,” Viele said. “Not just in piloting, but mechanics, ground control and other things related to aviation.”
She adds, ‘it’s a rewarding career that she knows will continue to soar.’
