
“If you’re getting to the moon, and you have a great booster rocket, but you haven’t got a capsule capable of landing … it’s not going to work,” said Eric Lander, assistant to the president for science and technology, adding that the coronavirus had exposed the nation’s piecemeal approach to pandemic readiness. “We need people who are focused full-time” on the mission of fighting pandemics, said Lander, whose office helped steer the plan with the National Security Council.
