Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse on the high school gridiron is a big deal.
CNS senior tight end Josh Kubala and the Northstars have their eyes on the prize – a Section III Class AA championship appearance – with a test against one of the only teams that beat them this year.
“Obviously, we didn’t like how that game turned out. The guys have put in a lot of work this week,” Kubala said. “The last couple of weeks, really we’ve been up to this game, so I think [we have] the right mindset to get the job done.”
The Northstars are feeling confident in their preparation and feel they have what it takes to get to the Dome, but in their way yet again this season are the Warriors of Liverpool.
“It’s a big game for us, because last time we were in the playoffs, we came up short against C-NS, so this has a lot of history,” said Liverpool senior center Crispin Ogindo. “You know, we beat them earlier, and I look forward to doing that again.”
The spring game between the teams was ended early due to tempers flaring and multiple personal fouls. This time, a trip to the Dome is on the line.
“You know, they’re CNS. We’re Liverpool. We’re supposed to not like each other,” Ogindo said. “But also, sometimes it’s like you just gotta be careful with it. Because we don’t want to repeat what happened last year, but definitely a lot of intensity with them.”
