While Love is Blind: After the Altar just dropped on Netflix, the updates from the season 1 couples shown in the new special are already a few months old. The three new episodes show how the cast has been handling fame and new relationships following the release of Love is Blind in February 2020. While the special included all kinds of new drama and sparked even more questions among fans about the status of many season 1 couples, viewers are also curious about when and where the special was filmed.
The three After the Altar episodes revolved around a two-year anniversary party for Lauren and Cameron Hamilton and Amber and Matt Barnett, the two couples who managed to create successful marriages from the show. Leading up to the anniversary party, the special checked in with Giannina Gibelli, Damian Powers, Carlton Morton, Diamond Jack, and Jessica Batten, along with a few appearances from other season 1 cast members like Kelly Chase and Kenny Barnes. The only main cast member to not appear on the special was Mark Cuevas.

The After the Altar special managed to compile scenes of the cast over the course of a few weeks. Since the special revolved around a two-year anniversary party for the married couples, determining when it was filmed is actually quite easy. Although season 1 of Love is Blind didn’t premiere until February 2020, the season was filmed in November 2018. Therefore, the After the Altar special was filmed in November 2020. Decider used the cast’s Instagram pages to compile an even more accurate timeline, which shows that filming likely stretched from late October 2020 to late November 2020. The actual anniversary party took place on November 14.

The first season of Love is Blind was filmed in Atlanta, Georgia, and the After the Altar special followed suit. The first season demanded that the cast be based in Atlanta, so returning to film in that location made sense. But rather than the ultra-advanced set at Pinewood Studios that was used in the first season, the After the Altar special was mainly filmed at random venues around Atlanta and the cast’s homes.
While the After the Altar special provided an entertaining and much-needed update on the season 1 couples, fans are left with more questions than answers. Since the special was filmed more than nine months ago, it’s certain that a lot has changed for the cast members since then. While both married couples seem to be happily together today, Giannina and Damian’s relationship status is less clear. However, neither has posted a couple’s photo in a while, suggesting the last nine months haven’t mended their relationship. At this point, fans may need yet another reunion episode to get up-to-date information about where the cast is now.
