Utica, New York – Elderlife Inc. DBA 50 Forward Mohawk Valley announced today that it has received an AmeriCorps Seniors grant of $104,787 from AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. The grant will expand 50 Forward’s presence in the Mohawk Valley, where we have been providing services for older adults for almost 70 years.
Kelly Walters, Executive Director shared that, “Older adults have so much to give, and we are proud to be the go-to resource connecting them with meaningful ways to share their talents. The AmeriCorps Seniors program offers an ideal platform to expand community engagement and celebrate the impact of senior volunteerism.”
With this new funding, 50 Forward will leverage the skills and experience of AmeriCorps Volunteers in Oneida County to focus on Healthy Futures. This program will be responsible for increasing older adults ability to remain in their homes and make nonprofit organizations more efficient and effective. These Volunteers will help support older adults and their caregivers by providing transportation, in home financial management through the Bill Payer Program, leading evidence based health and education programs, serve at emergency food organizations, prepare tax returns, and build nonprofit capacity. The project also enables adults over the age of 55 to learn new skills and connect with their community.
