The Rome and Oneida Family YMCAs will open their doors to the community at no cost from October 7 through 11.
ROME AND ONEIDA, NY – The YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley will host its first-ever Healthy Aging Week alongside a free Open House from October 7 through October 11 at its Rome and Oneida branches.
Community members of all ages are invited to try out the facilities at either location at no cost throughout the week. Guests can use the fitness centers and indoor pools, try group exercise classes, tour the facilities and learn more about the programs and services available at each branch.
The week will include health and wellness workshops from Wednesday, October 7, through Sunday, October 11. Speakers from local organizations will cover a variety of topics including fall prevention, Medicare, nutrition, mental health, fraud prevention, caregiver resources, and other issues related to healthy aging.
Health Expos will also be held at both branches on Saturday, October 10, from 9 a.m. to noon. Local organizations will be on hand to provide information, health screenings, and community resources. Offerings will include blood pressure testing, nutrition resources and grief support information. Flu shots will be offered at the Oneida branch on Thursday, October 8, and at the Rome branch during the Health Expo on Saturday, October 10.
“The YMCA has always been a place where people can improve their health and connect with their neighbors,” said Hank Leo, CEO of the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley. “By opening both branches to the public for free, we hope more people will discover activities, information and local resources that can help them stay healthy and active.”
New members who join during the Open House will have the standard $75 joining fee waived. Current members who bring a guest who joins will receive one free month of membership. Staff will also be available to help visitors determine whether their health insurance or Medicare Advantage plan may cover the cost of a YMCA membership.
