WITH THANKSGIVING AROUND THE CORNER AND FOOD BANKS STRUGGLING AS NEW SNAP CUTS TAKE EFFECT, SCHUMER ANNOUNCES NEW LEGISLATION TO PROTECT SNAP WHICH 45,000+ SOUTHERN TIER FAMILIES, SENIORS, & VETS WHO RELY ON, HELP LOCAL FARMERS AND SAVE COUNTY BUDGETS FROM PAYING FOR DEVASTATING FOOD CUTS
Schumer, With Hunger Free America CEO, Says These Cruel SNAP Cuts Hurt Our Families, Farmers & Food Banks And Now Is Announcing New Legislation To Keep Southern Tier Families Fed, Reverse Anti-Hunger Cuts
Schumer: Thanksgiving Is A Time For Us To Take Care Of Our Neighbors And That Means Protecting SNAP
HAPPENING IN ODESSA AT 2:00 PM – As Southern Tier food banks prepare to help families for Thanksgiving, just as SNAP cuts start to take effect adding to already overwhelming demand, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer will announce his new legislation – the Restoring Food Security for American Families and Farmers Act – to strengthen SNAP and reverse the cuts that will rip away food from thousands of hungry kids and families. Standing at Wellness Warehouse Food Pantry, Schumer will explain that food banks are busier than ever, especially with rising grocery costs due to tariffs and with millions of families across America at risk of losing vital food assistance as reductions to SNAP benefits start to take effect.
Schumer will say that America is on the brink of a hunger crisis, as families get kicked off SNAP and grocery prices surge from tariffs, and his new legislation will reverse Republicans’ nearly $200 billion cut to SNAP to protect food assistance for kids, seniors and veterans in the Southern Tier and ensure local farmers and businesses who accept food stamps will still be able to sell their food because no family should have to worry about putting food on the table, this Thanksgiving or ever.
Schumer will be joined by Joel Berg, CEO of Hunger Free America, Mark Bordeau, President/CEO of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, representatives from Catholic Charities of Chemung/Schuyler, as well as local food pantry service providers and community advocates.
