For the third time this year, “College GameDay” has chosen a top-10 matchup to preview. This time, the program heads to Athens, Ga., where No. 8 Arkansas will look to take down No. 2 Georgia in a cross-division matchup.
Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, David Pollack and Co. will preview their third game involving an SEC team, though Saturday’s meeting is the first conference game. The show couldn’t have picked a better week to focus on the all-SEC matchup: No. 8 Arkansas has its first top-10 ranking since 2012, and is looking to finish ranked in the top 25 for the first time since 2011. The Razorbacks look primed to accomplish that under second-year coach Sam Pittman, boasting wins over No. 15 Texas and No. 7 Texas A&M four games into the season.

Whereas Arkansas is treading in unfamiliar water, No. 2 Georgia has been in this position before, including earlier this season. The Bulldogs have one fewer ranked win over the Razorbacks, but claim a victory over then-No. 3 Clemson, a massive plus for their College Football Playoff resume. How will the Bulldogs, led by USC transfer JT Daniels, fare in their second significant test of the season?
A loss by either team is not a death blow in any sense. Because both teams play in separate divisions, it’s possible both could still run the table and rematch in the SEC Championship game. Whether Georgia and Arkansas can stay undefeated following Saturday’s game remains to be seen. It’s probably for the best, then, to enjoy the matchup while both are among the ranks of the unbeaten.

Where is ‘College GameDay’ location for Week 5?
- Location: Athens, Ga.
- Matchup: No. 8 Arkansas at No. 2 Georgia
“GameDay” will make its sixth all-time visit to Athens, Ga., for Saturday’s matchup. The Bulldogs are 3-2 all time in those games, all of which were also against ranked teams: Georgia is 2-1 when it is the higher-ranked team, as it is against the Razorbacks.
Overall, this is Georgia’s 27th time on the show, having gone 9-17 in its previous 26 appearances. That includes a 9-15 record in ranked games, though that record improves tremendously when limiting it to matchups in which Georgia is the higher ranked team: 5-7.
Conversely, this is Arkansas’ third appearance on the show … ever. The Razorbacks are 1-1 all time, having beaten No. 13 Tennessee 31-14 in 2006 and losing 31-26 to No. 6 Ohio State in the 2011 Sugar Bowl.
Arkansas and Georgia have never faced off against each other on “College GameDay.”
