Join Jessica Farmer, cultural programs coordinator at the Shako: wi Cultural Center, for a Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) storytelling and wampum-making workshop. This program takes place at the Oneida County History Center on November 16 at 2:00 p.m. All ages are invited, and all supplies are provided.
Wampum consists of beads made from the shells of various white and purple mollusks. Many Native nations throughout northeastern North America have used these beads for ornamental and ceremonial purposes. Wampum is highly valued due to its spiritual significance and meaning.
Storytelling is an important part of the Haudenosaunee culture. Oral traditions and legends have been passed from generation to generation, teaching communities how to live, act, and care for one another. Please join us to hear more about this important tradition.
