This incident highlights the serious implications of Utica school bomb threats, emphasizing the necessity for proactive measures and community awareness in response to such threats.
The Sentinel reported that the two Utica schools and Hart’s Hill Elementary in Whitesboro had been searched and cleared by 1 p.m. It quoted Utica Police Capt. Michael Curley saying, “Everybody is released. Everything is going on as normal.” Police and school officials reported that students and staff were safe.
These Utica school bomb threats have raised alarms within the community, prompting heightened security measures.
What happened at the two Utica schools
The threats to Hughes on Prospect Street and Notre Dame on Barton Avenue were called in around 11:30 a.m., the Sentinel reported. Both schools were initially placed on lockdown while officers responded.
WKTV’s initial account also identified Hughes and Notre Dame and reported that police were at both locations. The all-clear described above comes from the Sentinel’s later account.
John F. Hughes Elementary is part of the Utica City School District. Notre Dame Elementary is a separate Catholic school. Families should use the communications from their own school for any instructions specific to their child.
Hart’s Hill also cleared in Whitesboro
The Whitesboro Central School District’s official website separately confirmed that Hart’s Hill Elementary had been evacuated after an anonymous threat. In an updated notice, the district said law enforcement and trained personnel swept the building and grounds, found no hazardous items and cleared the property for reentry.
The district said students and staff were returning to classrooms and dismissal would proceed on the normal schedule. Its early-pickup instructions applied specifically to Hart’s Hill: parents could arrive after 1:30 p.m., bring identification and report to the main office.
The public information reviewed for this report did not identify a suspect or establish whether the incidents were connected.

Where families can find reliable instructions
UCSD’s standing emergency guidance for parents asks families to monitor the school messenger system and district website, wait to come to a school until notified, and ensure that an authorized adult with identification signs a student out. Those are general procedures; any school-specific message takes precedence for today’s pickup and dismissal arrangements.
Families can check the UCSD website, their school’s direct messages, and the official websites for Notre Dame and Whitesboro. Check the date and time on updates before sharing them.
