Utica Dollars for Scholars announces new scholarship as March 15 deadline approaches

Utica Dollars for Scholars, a member of Scholarship America and partner of The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, has new scholarships to offer this year through the Mele Family Fund to help support one student each from Adirondack High School in Boonville and Owen D. Young Junior/Senior High School in Van Hornesville. These new scholarships are in addition to the more than 100 scholarships available to students throughout Oneida and Herkimer counties.
These Mele Family Fund Scholarships, through The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, are $12,000 awards that are considered for renewal for up to three additional years. The awards will be given to graduating seniors who plan to attend a four-year college or university and demonstrate excellence in math, science, or the humanities with a GPA of 85 or higher.
Students from all high schools within Oneida and Herkimer counties can apply for these awards and others by visiting utica.dollarsforscholars.org and completing the free application. Special attention for these awards is paid to students’ extracurricular activities, Goals and Aspirations essay, transcript, and references. The application deadline is March 15.
This past June, approximately 120 scholarships to seniors totaling $120,000 were announced virtually to receiving students from around the Mohawk Valley. In light of safety precautions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students will be notified of their awards and a presentation will be available again on social media.
