Update from Mayor Palmieri on Snow Storm
“The State and County’s State of Emergency and the City’s Snow Emergency are still in full effect until further notice. Vehicles cannot be parked on City streets with no exceptions.
State, County, and City officials have been in constant communication throughout the duration of this storm and worked throughout the night to clear city streets.
As of 7:00 am, in coordination with partnering agencies, over 150 cars have been removed from city streets allowing State Department of Transportation and Utica DPW to clear 26 streets and 18 intersections we were not previously able to plow due to abandoned vehicles.
At this time the overwhelming majority of city streets are passable. The top priority of the Administration is to continue to coordinate with the State and County to have vehicles on the streets that have yet to be plowed removed as soon as possible.
In addition, the National Guard is continuing to work in collaboration with the Utica Fire Department, Utica Police Department and the Mohawk Valley Water Authority to have fire hydrants throughout the city cleared.
I cannot emphasize enough my appreciation for the assistance and resources Governor Cuomo, NYS Department of Transportation Commissioner Matthew Driscoll, Office of General Services Commissioner RoAnn Destito, the National Guard, County Executive Picente, Sheriff Rob Maciol, area first responder agencies and their staffs have provided the City of Utica in our time of need as this has been a complete team effort.
I thank our residents for their continued patience and cooperation and want them to know this operation is still in full force and will continue until all roads are passable.”
