The Eternals Turn Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet Trick Back on Him

Thanos killed She-Hulk in a gruesome fashion with the Infinity Gauntlet and readers learn that Sersi from the Eternals turned it back on Thanos!

Spoilers for The Eternals #6 ahead!

One of Thanos’ most gruesome attacks in The Infinity Gauntlet was just turned back on him by the Eternals. In The Eternals #6, on sale now in print and digital, readers learn that Sersi of the Eternals took one of Thanos’ most vicious attacks and flipped it back on him in the most extraordinary way.

The Infinity Gauntlet saga, written by Jim Starlin with art by George Perez and Ron Lim, is one of the most beloved events in Marvel history and established the blueprint for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Much like the MCU, Infinity Gauntlet saw Thanos wipe out half of the universe’s population using the Infinity Stones. Adam Warlock rallied a group of heroes together to fight Thanos, but they were mostly cannon fodder until the big guns could arrive. One of the heroes in Adam’s army was She-Hulk and when she attacked the Mad Titan, he used the Infinity Stones to cover her with a fast-growing fungus, which then smothered the hero to death. Thanos unleashed a number of such attacks on the heroes, but this one stands out as especially vile, but now readers learn it was ultimately used against the Mad Titan himself in The Eternals #6, written by Kieron Gillen, with art by Esad Ribic, colors by Matthew Wilson and letters by Clayton Cowles.

The Eternals are fighting Thanos, and narration reveals that She-Hulk told Seri, over drinks, how Thanos killed her with the fungus. Readers learn this deeply disturbed Sersi, causing her to lose sleep for days, but it also gave her an idea. Sersi uses her powers of matter manipulation to duplicate the attack, covering Thanos’ body with the fungus, but with a twist—this fungus injects Thanos with a pyrokinetic poison that burns Thanos’ cells. In essence, Sersi turned the tables on Thanos in the most spectacular way.

Thanos, Sersi, Eternals

She-Hulk’s death at the hands of Thanos in Infinity Gauntet is one of the most memorable in the whole series, and even Sersi is shaken by how brutal it was, yet she has the presence of mind to not only turn the attack back on Thanos, but to improve it, and get revenge on She-Hulk’s behalf. Thanos, in all of his hubris, never would have guessed a random kill of his would come back to haunt him, and it proves why Thanos is continually defeated time and again.

The Infinity Gauntlet saw Thanos come closer than he ever has to fulfilling his mad ambitions. A number of heroes, including She-Hulk, suffered at the Mad Titan’s hands, but the Eternals were able to turn his attack on her back at him, burning Thanos literally and metaphorically.
