Teacher arrested, accused of setting hidden camera

Colonie Police have arrested a Sand Creek Middle School teacher for allegedly placing a hidden camera in a co-ed employee bathroom.

Police say the suspicious device was disguised as a cell phone charger. It contained images and videos of several faculty members, both male and female, in various stages of undress.

Officers stress there aren’t any videos of students, nor are there any other cameras on campus.

The device was traced back to Patrick Morgan, a 28-year veteran of the district. He currently teaches fifth grade.

The district canceled classes at the middle school today. Counselors and victim advocates have been offered to employees.

“The South Colonie administration team has been working closely with the Colonie Police Department over the past few days during its investigation and will continue to do so until the investigation is completed,” read a statement from South Colonie Superintendent Dr. David Perry.

Morgan has been charged with two counts of unlawful surveillance, but more charges are likely to come as the investigation is ongoing. Colonie Police said in a statement that search warrants “are being executed at Mr. Morgan’s residence in Frankfort” and that police are working to determine if there are additional victims or cameras placed in any other locations. The South Colonie school district says Morgan has been placed on administrative leave.
