Syracuse Police are adding extra patrols this weekend, including a proactive police Halloween detail on Sunday, to help keep children safe.
A group of officers will be patrolling neighborhoods with patrol car flashers on, slowly driving in neighborhoods that typically see a heavy concentration of trick-or-treaters.
They’re also suggesting trick-or-treaters to keep door-to-door travels in neighborhoods between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
As you get your children’s costumes and bowls of candy ready, Syracuse Police have a few tips to ensure a safe night for all.
- The brighter the better – Wear or carry a light or something reflective, while also wearing costumers that are visible in the dark
- Check your children’s candy – Watch out for candy that appears to have been tampered with and be careful with any homemade, unpacked treats and brightly packaged cannabis gummies
- Drivers need to stay alert and watch for children on the roadways and curbs
- Always walk on sidewalks or paths
