Syracuse city workers must show proof of vaccination, starting today

A new vaccine policy is now in effect for the city of Syracuse. Employees are being asked to share their vaccination status and could face regular testing if they aren’t vaccinated.

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh (I) said this first week with the new policy gives officials the chance to gather information they need. Workers will get a link to an app for their phone that will allow them to update and share their information.

There has been some public criticism of the new policy, but the mayor says there’s been an open dialogue with the different unions, despite the remaining issues.

“There are some matters that remain in question as it related to consequences for not participating in the policy,” said Walsh.

Mayor Walsh stresses that the goal is to make sure people are healthy and to protect the health of the employees, their families and those that they serve.
