New Hartford, NY – On Saturday, March 1, 2025, a shooting incident occurred at Sangertown Square Mall in New Hartford, resulting in one individual sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. The New Hartford Police Department responded promptly to the scene around 12:45 p.m., where they located the injured male victim, who was subsequently transported to Wynn Hospital and is currently recovering.
Following a swift investigation, authorities identified and arrested Malachi Wynder, a 20-year-old resident of Rome, New York, in connection with the shooting. Wynder has been charged with attempted murder, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a firearm.
The incident prompted an immediate evacuation of the mall as a precautionary measure. Law enforcement officials have emphasized that this was not an active shooter situation and that the shooting appeared to be a targeted act.
The New Hartford Police Department is leading the ongoing investigation and has urged anyone with additional information to come forward. Community members are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement.
As of Sunday, March 2, Sangertown Square Mall has resumed normal operations and is open to the public.
