SU’s celebrity classic will bring Moten, Coleman back to the

You won’t see SU basketball take the court for another couple months or so, but some old-time favorites and legends are returning to University Hill this week as part of the Celebrity Basketball Classic.

The game’s part of SU’s 13th Coming Back Together celebration, which honors the university’s Black and Latino alumni. Playing big roles are former stars Derrick Coleman and Lawrence Moten.

Moten talked about the game’s impact and the teams, past and present, love for getting back together on campus while also helping out the surrounding community.

“Syracuse is my second home and one of the things my mother always told me was just don’t stay on that hill, get to know the people in the town. And I was blessed to do that and it’s not just here on the university. We try to help out in the surrounding communities and all over Syracuse,” said Moten.

Coming Back Together takes place starting Thursday and runs through the weekend, while the Celebrity Basketball Classic tips off Thursday night from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
