SUNY Poly to Host Wind Power Workshop for Middle and High School Students

UTICA, NY – SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) is excited to announce the upcoming “Wind  Power in Action: Build Your Own Turbine” workshop, a hands-on STEM experience designed for  middle and high school students. Hosted by Dr. Aarthi Sekaran and Dr. Jiayue Shen, Assistant  Professors at SUNY Poly, the event will take place on Monday, March 17, from 4 – 6 p.m. in  Donovan Hall, Room G172.

In this interactive session, students will explore the science and engineering behind wind energy by  constructing their own functional wind turbines. Participants will gain an understanding of  renewable energy, wind power mechanics, and sustainability, equipping them with valuable STEM  skills to inspire future innovation.

“We are thrilled to provide students with an opportunity to engage in hands-on renewable energy  exploration at SUNY Poly,” said John Reade, Director of Pre-Collegiate Outreach. “Workshops like  this not only introduce students to exciting STEM concepts but also spark curiosity about  sustainable solutions that can impact our world. We encourage all aspiring engineers and scientists  to join us for this unique experience.”

The workshop is open to students ages 12-18 years old (middle and high school students only).  Space is limited to 15 participants, and the registration deadline is Friday, March 14, at noon. The  fee for participation is $10 per person.
