WASHINGTON, D.C. – In light of various media reports about tensions among New York Democrats, EMILY’s List president Stephanie Schriock issued the following statement:
“The New York Senate needs and the people of New York deserve the kind of strong leadership and vision Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins brings. She is a proven leader that has fought for women and families in her time in the State Senate. EMILY’s List has been proud to support her throughout her time in public office and is proud to stand with her now. Andrea is one of only seven Democratic women in the New York State Senate, the first woman to lead a caucus in the state and one of a small number of women of color leading a caucus nationwide. Her record on reproductive freedom, minimum wage, and economic equality is consistent with our progressive values as an organization committed to ensuring the rights of women and families are protected.”
