MOHAWK VALLEY NINE
UTICA – The Mohawk Valley Nine, a bipartisan coalition of state legislators representing Herkimer, Madison and Oneida counties, released the following statement today in response to the Governor’s call for the Legislature to pass a relief package for the Vernon Downs racino:
We appreciate the Governor’s attention, concern and expression of his willingness to support a relief package for the Vernon Downs racino in the Mohawk Valley. We have already spoken with the Governor’s staff and legislative leaders to express the urgency of this matter, and the Senate has passed a bill that was acceptable to the management of Vernon Downs and agreed to by the Executive. We are now urging the Governor to personally contact the Speaker to convince the Assembly to do the right thing and save 300 jobs of upstate workers whose futures are on the line.
The Mohawk Valley Nine is comprised of the following legislators:
Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I/Ref – Oneonta) – co-chairman
Assemblyman Bill Magee (D – Nelson) – co-chairman
