State Police News: Mar 19th 11:00 am

Traffic Stop in Lyons Leads to Drug Arrest

On March 17, 2025, at approximately 11:05 p.m., a Trooper from SP Lyons conducted a traffic stop on a 2024 Mazda after observing the vehicle fail to signal while entering State Route 31 eastbound and exceeding the posted speed limit. The stop was conducted on Warncke Road in Lyons, Wayne County.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the Trooper identified the operator as Tony E. Hickey Jr., age 54, of Sodus, NY. Subsequent to an investigation, Hickey was found to be in possession of illicit drugs and other contraband. A further search of the vehicle and Hickey’s person led to the discovery of the following items:

  • Approximately 117.1 grams of crack cocaine
  • Approximately 4.3 grams of an unidentified controlled substance
  • Approximately 13.5 grams of buprenorphine
  • An undisclosed amount of U.S. currency
  • Digital scales

Hickey was taken into custody and transported to SP Lyons, where he was processed and charged with the following offenses:

  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd (A-II Felony)
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd (B Felony)

Hickey was arraigned at the Wayne County Centralized Arraignment Process (CAP) and subsequently remanded to the Wayne County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.


New York State Police announce results of St. Patrick’s Day enforcement period

 

The New York State Police today announced that it issued 11,582 tickets during this year’s St. Patrick’s Day enforcement initiative.

The campaign began on Friday, March 14, 2025, and continued until Monday, March 17, 2025. This year’s enforcement was one day longer than the 2024 initiative.

During the campaign, which was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, the New York State Police utilized sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and underage drinking and sales to minors detail. State Police also ticketed distracted drivers who use handheld electronic devices.

State Troopers arrested 239 people for DWI and investigated 563 crashes, which resulted in no fatalities.

As part of the enforcement, Troopers also targeted speeding and aggressive drivers across the State. Below is a sampling of the total tickets that were issued.

During last year’s St. Patrick’s Day enforcement period, the State Police issued 8,662 tickets and arrested 217 people for DWI.
