New York State Police investigate robbery at Savannah Bank in Port Byron

The New York State Police are investigating a robbery that occurred on January 6, 2025 at the Savannah Bank, located at 126 Main Street in the village of Port Byron.

At approximately 3:25 p.m., a male suspect entered the bank and approached a teller and demanded money. The suspect left the premises immediately after taking the money and was last seen walking southbound on Main Street.

The suspect was described as a male wearing a black cloth mask, a grey jacket, and grey pants.
 

 

The New York State Police have begun a thorough investigation and are asking the public for assistance. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect or who may have witnessed the event is urged to contact the New York State Police at 585-398-4100 or crimetip@troopers.ny.gov

The investigation is ongoing.


Malone male arrested for assault 3rd, unlawful imprisonment 2nd, aggravated family offense, and CPCS 7th

On January 3, 2025, State Police members arrested Austin D. Potter, age 24, of Malone, NY, for assault 3rd, unlawful imprisonment 2nd, aggravated family offense, and criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th. 
 

On January 3, 2025, at approximately 10:10 a.m., Troopers responded to Murray Street in the town of Malone for a physical domestic dispute.  An investigation determined Potter and the victim were involved in a verbal argument which turned physical when Potter struck the victim in the face.  As the victim was attempting to leave the residence, Potter forcefully pushed the victim back from the holding restraining the victim from leaving.  The victim was finally able to get away from Potter to leave the residence and contact law enforcement.
 

Potter was arrested and found to have narcotics.  He was transported to SP Malone for processing.  He was arraigned in the Town of Malone Court, where he was released on his own recognizance.


State Police Investigating Suspicious Deaths in the Village of Carthage

On January 6, 2025, at about 2:38 p.m., New York State Police and Carthage Police Department responded to 117 North School Street in the Village of Carthage for a report of two individuals found deceased in a parked vehicle behind the building.

A preliminary investigation revealed Charles G. Fielder Jr., age 51, from Plattsburgh, NY, was in the front driver seat, and Emily E. Ross, age 39, from Carthage, NY, was in the passenger seat. Both were found deceased from undetermined circumstances. 

State Police are awaiting an autopsy report from the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the official cause of death. There is no indication of criminal activity or harm to the public.

The investigation is ongoing.


State Police arrest Syracuse man following pursuit

On January 6, 2025, at about 11:00 p.m., State Police initiated a traffic stop on a 2003 Toyota on Spencer Street in the City of Syracuse for tinted windows.

The vehicle initially pulled over but fled shortly after, prompting a pursuit. The vehicle turned onto multiple streets, including Shonnard Street, where the operator fled on foot.

The operator, identified as Joshua A. Pizarro-Osorio, 21, from Syracuse, NY, was located nearby and taken into custody by an Onondaga Sheriff’s deputy.

Pizarro-Osorio was turned over to State Police and arrested for Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer, numerous traffic violations, and released on an appearance ticket.
