Troopers Assist with Ice Rescue on Lake Dutchess

On December 23, 2024, Trooper Denapoli and Probationary Trooper Daniel Dechent (SP East Fishkill), Troopers Bryan Conti and Dominick Mignoli (SP Stormville), Troopers Kevin Litchauer, Michael Kirchner, and Ryan Callaghan (SP Dover), responded to 19 Dutchess Drive, in the town of Pawling, to assist the Dutchess County Sherriff’s Office with a report of a male subject fallen through ice several hundred feet from shore.
Investigation revealed a male subject was ice skating on the lake when he fell through the ice and into the frigid water. Upon arrival, the male subject was still in the water, with only his arms and upper torso above the ice. The Pawling Fire Department, with assistance from the NYSP, DCSO, PCSO, Town of Kent Police, and NYS Forest Rangers were able to reach the subject utilizing ice rescue suits and a kayak. Once the man was secured, he, along with two members of the Pawling Fire Department were pulled back to shore by assisting agencies. The male was transported by EMS to Danbury Hospital with of hypothermia and is expected to survive.

Plattsburgh female arrested for CPW 2nd, Menacing 2nd, and EWOC
On December 23, 2024, State Police members arrested Sarah A. King, age 39, of Plattsburgh, NY, for criminal possession of a weapon 2nd, menacing 2nd, and endangering the welfare of a child.
On December 23, 2024, at approximately 3:03 p.m., Troopers responded to Consumer Square in the town of Plattsburgh for a road rage complaint. An investigation determined King became irate while driving, presented a firearm, making threatening remarks to the victim, while a child was present in the vehicle.
King was arrested and transported to SP Plattsburgh for processing. She was arraigned in the Town of Plattsburgh Court and remanded to Clinton County Jail. She is set to reappear in court on January 9, 2025.
Plattsburgh female arrested for grand larceny 4th
On December 24, 2024, State Police members arrested Heather M. Battige, age 41, of Plattsburgh, NY, for grand larceny 4th.
On December 14, 2024, at approximately 12:03 p.m., Troopers responded to Ulta Beauty located on Consumer Square in the town if Plattsburgh for a larceny complaint. An investigation determined Battige entered the store, stealing merchandise valued at approximately $1,275 passing all points of purchase without paying.
Battige was arrested and transported to SP Plattsburgh for processing. She was arraigned in the Town of Plattsburgh Court, where she was remanded to Clinton County Jail without bail due to prior convictions.
Massena male arrested for menacing 2nd, and Criminal possession of a firearm
On December 24, 2024, State Police members arrested Jacy V. Charleston, age 34, of Massena, NY, for criminal possession of a firearm, and menacing 2nd.
On December 24, 2024, at approximately 5:42 p.m., Troopers responded to County Route 4 in the town of Bombay for a menacing complaint. An investigation determined Charleston presented a firearm, pointed it at the victim, stating threatening remarks.
Charleston was arrested and transported to SP Malone for processing. He was arraigned in the Town of Bombay Court, where he was released under the supervision of probation.
State Police arrest Gloversville man for Rape
On December 19, 2024, State Police of Fonda, with the assistance of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, arrested Hernan Julia, 44, of Gloversville, NY, for Rape in the third degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
On December 19, 2024, at about 6:15 p.m., Troopers responded to the area of State Route 5 in Mohawk, NY, for the reports of a hit-and-run crash into a guide rail. Troopers located the vehicle involved with obvious damage parked in a nearby pull-off area. Upon approaching the vehicle, Julia was observed engaging in sexual activity with a teenage juvenile under the age of 16 inside the vehicle.
Julia was arrested and transported to SP Fonda for processing. He was then arraigned at the Mohawk Town Court, where he was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash, $20,000 bond, or a $30,000 partially secured bond.
Madrid male arrested for CPW 4th, CPW 3-previous conviction, and menacing 2nd
On December 25, 2024, State Police members arrested Peter J. Caughey, age 68, of Madrid, NY, for criminal possession of a weapon 4, criminal possession of a weapon 3rd-preivous conviction, and menacing 2nd.
On December 25, 2024, at approximately 12:14 p.m., Troopers responded to State Route 345 in the town of Madrid for a menacing complaint. An investigation determined Caughey brandished a knife, approached the victim, and was stating threatening remarks.
Caughey was arrested and transported to SP Canton for processing. He was arraigned in the Town of Canton Court, where he was remanded to St. Lawrence County Jail.
State Police arrest Albany Man following multiple thefts from vehicles
On December 13, 2024, State Police of Schodack arrested Albert G. Lindh, 34, of Albany, NY, for:
- Two counts of Criminal Possess of Stolen Property in the fourth degree
- Four counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fifth degree
- Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree
- Seven counts of Grand Larceny in the fourth degree
- Five counts of Petit Larceny
- Obstructing Governmental Administration in the second degree
On December 13, 2024, Troopers received complaints of multiple vehicle break-ins in Sand Lake, NY. The investigation discovered that items, including credit cards, had been stolen from various vehicles overnight. During further investigation, it was found that an individual, later identified as Lindh, had been attempting to use the stolen credit cards in East Greenbush, NY. Troopers located Lindh walking in the area where the credit card was last attempted, where he was taken into custody. When arrested, Lindh was found to possess property allegedly stolen during the earlier vehicle break-ins, including multiple stolen credit cards, in addition, he possessed multiple glass smoking devices containing drug residue. Lindh was uncooperative with the investigation.
Further investigation discovered some of the property Lindh possessed at his time of arrest had been reportedly stolen from a vehicle in East Greenbush, NY, during the overnight hours of December 11, 2024, into December 12, 2024.
Lindh was transported to SP Schodack for processing. He was later arraigned at the Schaghticoke Town Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility without bail.
State Police arrest Pittstown woman for stealing from a former employer.
On December 22, 2024, State Police of Brunswick arrested Tara A. Cottrell, 38, of Pittstown, NY, for Grand Larceny in the third degree, Falsifying Business Records in the first degree, and Forgery in the third degree.
On December 16, 2024, at about 3:34 p.m., Troopers received a complaint from a Schaghticoke business reporting a theft. The investigation determined the company had employed Cottrell as a bookkeeper. During the summer and fall of 2023, Cottrell allegedly falsified records to conceal the theft of more than $10,000 from the business.
Cottrell was arrested and processed at SP Brunswick. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Schaghticoke Town Court on January 6, 2025, and released.
