New York State Police Respond to Incident Near Canisteo Greenwood Elementary School
On December 18, 2024, the New York State Police in Wayland responded to Woodlawn Cemetery in the Village of Canisteo to assist the Canisteo Police Department School Resource Officer with detaining a suspicious individual near Canisteo Greenwood Elementary School.
The male, identified as Harley A. Marble, age 30, of Canisteo, NY, was observed operating an unregistered off-road motorcycle without a helmet before attempting to hide the vehicle behind a shed on school grounds. Upon being detained, officers discovered suspected cocaine and a modified flare gun capable of firing 12-gauge shotgun shells in Marble’s possession.
Marble was arrested and transported to SP North Hornell for processing. He was charged with Criminal Use of Firearm 2nd: Possess Deadly Weapon-Loaded (C Felony), Criminal Possession Of A Weapon On School Grounds (E Felony), and Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance- 7th Degree (A Misdemeanor). Marble was taken to Steuben County Jail for CAP Arraignment.
There are no threats to public safety. This appears to be an isolated incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
Troopers Investigate Teen Struck by a vehicle on County Route 105 in Monroe
State Police in Monroe are investigating a vehicle/pedestrian crash on County Route 105 in the town of Monroe, Orange County.
On December 18, 2024, at approximately 8:45 p.m., a 2021 Toyota, operated by Berl Rosenfeld, age 27, from Monroe, NY, was traveling eastbound on County Route 105 when he failed to maintain lane and struck 16-year-old Shlome Bernbluth who was walking eastbound on the south shoulder of County Route 105.
Shlome was transported to Westchester Medical Center with severe head injuries and listed in critical condition.
The investigation is continuing.
Update: State Police make arrest in hit & run investigation

On December 18, 2024, State Police arrested Keith P. McNamara, age 51, of Kingston, NY, on one count of assault 2nd degree (class D felony), one count of tampering with physical evidence and one count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury (both class E felonies).
An investigation determined that on August 29, 2024, McNamara was driving the pick-up truck that struck Mark Segall, age 68, of Kingston, while he was riding his bicycle south on State Route 375 in the town of Woodstock. McNamara then fled the scene. Segall suffered serious injuries as a result of collision.

The New York State Police Kingston are investigating a hit and run crash that occurred on August 29, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Mark Segall, age 68 from Kingston was riding his bike and traveling south on State Route 375 in the town of Woodstock near the intersection of Maverick Road when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene. Mr. Segall was transported Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. He is listed in critical but stable condition.
This is an ongoing investigation.

Liverpool man arrested on multiple sex offense charges
On December 18, 2024, the Troop D Computer Crimes Unit in collaboration with SP North Syracuse BCI, executed a search warrant at an apartment on Plantation Blvd in the town of Clay.
Subsequent to an extensive Internet Crimes Against Children investigation, Timothy J. Fairchild, age 25, from Liverpool, NY, was arrested and charged with the following:
• (3) counts of Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child (class “D” felony)
• (2) counts of Possession of Sexual Performance by a Child (class “E” felony)
The arrest is the result of the defendant utilizing various social media platforms to distribute child sexual exploitation material.
Fairchild was transported to the Onondaga County Justice Center to await centralized arraignment.
State Police in Troop G make notable DWI arrests 12/12- 12/19
On December 12, 2024, at about 5:05 p.m., State Police assigned to the Latham Interstate Patrol responded to a three-car crash on I-90 eastbound in Albany, NY. Katherine L. Grill, 29, of Rensselaer, NY, was identified as the driver who allegedly caused the crash. Grill was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. She was transported to SP Latham for processing, where she recorded a 0.22% BAC. Grill was issued tickets returnable to the Albany City Court on January 6, 2025, and released. No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
On December 14, 2024, at about 6:56 p.m., State Police of Brunswick responded to the reports of a vehicle crashed off the roadway in the area of Johnson Hill Road in Hoosick, NY. The driver was identified as Lawrence J. Baker, 25, of Hoosick Falls, NY. Baker, who sustained minor injuries, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. He was transported to SP Brunswick for processing, where he recorded a 0.20% BAC. Baker was issued tickets returnable to the Hoosick Town Court on January 2, 2025, and released to a sober third party.
On December 14, 2024, at about 11:50 p.m., State Police of Cobleskill responded to the area of Main Street in Middleburgh, NY, for the reports of a car crashed into a light pole. The driver was identified as Megan E. Mccarthy, 29, of New York, NY. Mccarthy was determined to be uninjured and was arrested for Driving While intoxicated and other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. She was transported to SP Princetown for processing, where she recorded a 0.19% BAC. Mccarthy was issued tickets returnable to the Middleburgh Town Court on January 14, 2025, and released to a sober third party.
State Police arrest Colonie man following Halfmoon Burglary investigation
On December 17, 2024, State Police of Clifton Park arrested Ron D. Vandenburgh, 36, of Latham, NY, on a warrant for Burglary in the third degree, Grand Larceny in the third degree and Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree.
On October 21, 2024, at about 1:52 p.m., Troopers received the report of a burglary in Halfmoon, NY. The investigation determined Vandenburgh had reportedly entered the property at approximately 2:30 a.m. the same day without permission. He allegedly used a power tool to damage and remove a lock from a storage container and then stole more than $3,000 worth of materials from within. Vandenburgh was identified with the public’s assistance after his photograph was released on the New York State Police’s social media platforms.
Vandenburgh surrendered himself to SP Clifton Park, where he was arrested and processed. He was arraigned at the Halfmoon Town Court, where he was released on his own recognizance.
