The Public Invited to Attend.

Utica, New York, June 10–On Friday, June 14th, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. organizers from Underground Railroad Consortium of New York State (URCNYS) will make a presentation about the proposed Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad New York Corridor. Tubman was an enslaved woman and a freedom seeker who returned many times to the South to free others.

The Corridor will run from Tubman’s birthplace, Dorchester County, MD, to St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, where Tubman lived in the years immediately following her escape from slavery. The New York State section covers numerous sites of Underground Railroad activity from New York City to Niagara Falls.

The purpose of the project is to highlight Tubman’s journey of self-liberation and her work as a Conductor on the Underground Railroad. Tubman ultimately settled with her parents in Auburn, NY and her presence in the region is felt to this day thanks to the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park
