“I am pleased that common sense has prevailed and that the Court of Appeals has ruled that New York City’s law that would have allowed noncitizens to vote in local elections violates the constitution. Voting is a sacred right in our country and is reserved under the U.S. Constitution for American citizens only. If this ill-advised and politically motivated scheme was to move forward in New York City, it could have had potentially far-reaching and harmful effects on the integrity of our electoral system in New York.”
