A new exhibit has come to Schenectady County’s Public Library, but it’s not just meant to look pretty.
It’s for young people of color to share their perspectives. The mural is from Amplified Voices, a community public mural project that strives to share the voices of local artists of color.
It was made by teens that worked with the project’s mentors on personal expression and art techniques. It first showed up in the branches of the Albany Public Library, before its unveiling in Schenectady.
The library’s youth coordinator says the mural is coming at just the right time.
“At this time, it really is important to bring hope to our communities. Art is about change, it’s about a process, and through that change there’s an opportunity for hope,” said Youth Coordinator at Schenectady County Public Library Kaela Wallnon.
The mural will soon be headed to the children’s room at the Hononrable Karen B. Johnson Central Library.
