Ronald K. Furgison Dies in Morristown Crash on Sept. 19
A fatal Morristown vehicle collision claimed the life of a 73-year-old resident Saturday afternoon after his vehicle left Atwood Road and struck a tree, according to New York State Police. Investigators have not announced what caused the driver to lose control.
What police reported about the crash
Troopers responded to the single-vehicle crash in the town of Morristown at about 4:50 p.m. on September 19, 2026. They found a gray 2017 Chevrolet off the road. Morristown and Brier Hill Fire and Rescue personnel were providing medical aid to the driver when police arrived.
State Police identified the driver as Ronald K. Furgison, 73, of Morristown. According to their preliminary account, he was traveling north on Atwood Road when he lost control, went off the roadway and hit a tree.
Coroner responds; investigation continues
The St. Lawrence County coroner pronounced Furgison dead at the scene. Police said his body was transported to Jefferson River Hospital, and the Onondaga Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on September 20. The release did not provide autopsy findings.
The agency described the case as “an ongoing investigation.” It has not reported whether road conditions, a medical issue or another factor played a role. Those possibilities should not be treated as established facts.
