On Monday, March 31, 2025, the Rome Police Department Detective Division with the assistance of the New York State Police Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team arrested 51-year-old Ketan H. Patel of 27 Minebrook Road in Edison, New Jersey, for attempted Grand Larceny in the Third Degree in the City of Rome. The arrest is the result of a subsequent investigation into a Government Impersonation Fraud which was initially reported to Rome Police Department on March 27, 2025. Patel is accused of attempting to steal a large sum of money from the victim by engaging in fraudulent activity. Patel was involved in an online/ telephone scam in which multiple subjects impersonated government officials with the purpose of extorting money from the victim. Patel was processed at the Rome Police Department and arraigned in Rome City Court on the charge.
