
On Sunday, April 20th, 2025, a Rome Police Department Patrol Unit observed Donald J. Rundell riding his bicycle in the 200 block of Henry Street. Rundell was in violation of several New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws so the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Rundell failed to comply with the lawful order to stop and fled the scene. The officer then located Rundell on Lawrence Street and a brief foot pursuit ensued. As the officer caught up to Rundell and grabbed him by the backpack, Rundell pulled away, causing the officer to fall to the ground and hit his head on the pavement. At approximately 1256 hours Rundell was located by other patrol units and taken into custody in the 200 block of Erie Boulevard West.
As a result of this incident, Donald J. Rundell was charged with:

Assault 2nd
Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd
Resisting Arrest
Criminal Mischief 4th
Multiple VTL citations
The officer involved was transported to Rome Health where he was treated for minor lacerations to his hands and face.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.
