Rome, NY — October 15, 2025 — After a seven-year hiatus, Rome Clean and Green has
been revitalized and is once again mobilizing volunteers and community partners to
beautify and strengthen the City of Rome. The renewed organization returns at a pivotal
time, following several severe storms — including the devastating July 16, 2024 tornado —
that damaged neighborhoods, parks, and tree canopy across the area.
Originally founded in 1991, Rome Clean and Green has long been a cornerstone of local
pride and environmental stewardship. Aligned with the national Keep America Beautiful
network, the organization focuses on litter prevention, waste reduction and recycling, and
beautification and community greening — all grounded in the belief that a clean, green city
fosters community well-being and economic vitality.
“The revitalization of Rome Clean and Green marks an exciting new chapter for our city,”
said Mayor Jeffrey M. Lanigan. “A clean and beautiful community is vital to attracting
residents, welcoming businesses, and strengthening our local economy. My administration
is eager to partner with Rome Clean and Green to advance beautification efforts and
pursue grant opportunities that support this important work. I extend my sincere thanks to
the board members and leadership for their volunteer commitment to making Rome a
cleaner, greener, and more vibrant place to live.”
A New Era of Community Action
Under the leadership of a newly appointed volunteer Board of Directors, the organization is
launching a series of community-driven programs, including:
• A citywide Adopt-A-Spot initiative empowering residents, businesses, and civic
groups to maintain and beautify public spaces.
• Recycling and waste reduction campaigns to promote cleaner neighborhoods and
responsible disposal.
• A tree restoration program to replace lost canopy and strengthen the city’s
environmental resilience.
• Exciting fundraising events, highlighting the group’s commitment to keeping Rome
Beautiful.
“Rome Clean and Green is about more than cleanup — it’s about renewal,” said President
Matt Moore. “Together, we’re rebuilding Rome’s natural beauty, neighborhood pride, and
civic spirit.”
Meet the 2025 Rome Clean and Green Board
The 2025 Executive Board includes President Matt Moore, Vice President Tami Cantarano,
Secretary Chelsea Arcuri, and Treasurer Melanie Kekis. Board members are April
Cacciatori, Jake DiBari, Jessica Fletcher, Mike Kohli, Erica Riolo, Noah Rodriguez, and Laura
Trela, with City Councilor Ric Dursi serving as ex-officio member and Tanya Davis as
reorganizational consultant.
New members are always welcome to join and take part in upcoming projects and
initiatives.
Kicking Off with Community Celebration Events
The group’s first major events since its relaunch will highlight both creativity and
community spirit.
On November 15, 2025, Rome Clean and Green will host a Recycled Prom at Copper City
Brewing Company in celebration of America Recycles Day — an evening that proves
sustainability can be stylish. Guests are encouraged to wear previously loved or
repurposed formal attire, helping to reduce waste while reviving the fun of prom night for a
good cause.
In partnership with the Rome Lions Club, the event will also include a plastic film recycling
drive, collecting items such as grocery bags, bread wrappers, and case overwraps. The
collected material will be converted into park benches through a collaboration with Trex
Decking, reinforcing the group’s commitment to recycling and beautification.
The Recycled Prom will also serve as a volunteer recruitment and membership campaign,
inviting community members to join in shaping the next era of Rome Clean and Green’s
impact.
Just two weeks later, on November 28, 2025, the organization will present the Rome Lights
Fest 5K Run/Walk, held in conjunction with the City of Rome’s annual Christmas Tree
Lighting. The event will bring residents together to celebrate the start of the holiday season
while raising funds for beautification, tree restoration, and sustainability programs across
the city.
Sponsorships and volunteer opportunities for both events are available for businesses,
civic groups, and individuals eager to help make a difference.
