As the area got to know the story of “Rockefeller’ the Owl”, who was wrapped up in the Christmas Tree that traveled from Oneonta to Rockefeller Center in New York City, people followed her plight in the news every day. The region fell in love with the little owl and her story of surviving 3 days with no food and water while traveling. She has been nursed back to full health and is back in her natural outdoor habitat.
Just over one month ago, I had an idea- to sell Rocky Mugs to help The Stevens-Swan Humane Society. I am proud to announce this project exceeded any initial ideas of how popular the mugs would be for the Holidays! Thanks to the crew at Max’s Print Shop in Marcy who produced the mugs, with added staff and working 7 days a week to get the Rocky Mugs into the hands of those who wanted them, OVER 2,000 mugs were sold! The proceeds are at $12,750 for The Stevens-Swan Humane Society! Plus, the Rocky Mugs fundraiser will continue at Max’s Print Shop and on-line at RockyMug.com.
After coming up with this idea to immortalize “Rocky”, with her adorable little face on a mug, the project took wings! They were on sale at various outlets in Central New York. ‘It was a little brainstorm that came to me while I was having my morning coffee and I thought this would be a nice way to link the two- Rockefeller The Owl and the Stevens-Swan shelter animals. Knowing that the shelter needs help this time of year was also a determining factor for me to go forward with this project’, said Jerry Kraus (a former employee of The Stevens-Swan Humane Society 2008-2013)- who came up with this fundraising idea.
