The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Melissa Gorga shared that her husband Joe didn’t make a good impression after falling asleep on their 2nd date.
Melissa Gorga of The Real Housewives of New Jersey dished about the worst date of her life, sharing that her first few dates with husband Joe Gorga did not make a great first impression. Though the couple ultimately tied the knot in 2004, the 42-year-old Envy boutique owner said Gorga, 41, failed to impress in the early stages of their courtship.
After their marital woes played out during RHONJ’s last season, Melissa said that she didn’t want to “die unhappy” in her marriage during the finale. Now, the reality star says she is in a much better place with her husband after a rough year and a half as a result of the pandemic.

Recently, the RHONJ star shared that her first date with Gorga at his home involved the entrepreneur disguising takeout from a local Italian restaurant as a home-cooked meal, placing the food in cookware and swearing the spread was prepared from scratch. “That was, you know, A for effort,” the Bravo star said, before going on to describe an even less impressive performance by Gorga on the couple’s second date.
Melissa shared with US Weekly that, while enjoying dinner in a “beautiful” restaurant, she watched incredulously as her now-husband dozed off in front of her. The RHONJ star said she asked, “Am I boring you? Or are you on drugs? Like, did I meet somebody who does drugs? You’re closing your eyes! I am not used to boring people.” Melissa says Joe “literally nodded off” at the table, though not without good reason. The reality star recalled Gorga’s explanation for his drowsy demeanor.

“He was like, ‘No, I got up at 5:30 this morning. I’m exhausted,’” Melissa shared, admitting the experience of her date’s mid-dinner snooze was a first. Despite Joe’s lackluster performance, Melissa divulged she “really liked” Gorga and said she acknowledged her beau’s busy work schedule. While their relationship has not been without its ups and downs, the couple recently celebrated 16 years of marriage. Over the years, the pair also welcomed three children, Antonia, 15, Gino, 14, and Joey, 11.
Despite their turbulent past, the couple seems to be on a good track. Season 11 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey wrapped up in May and all fifteen episodes are available to stream. While no official announcements have been made about the series’ return, the hit franchise is sure to be back with more signature Jersey drama.
