Rattlin’ Bog to Play Free MVCC Rome Concert Oct. 19

ROME, N.Y. Rattlin’ Bog will perform at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, in Festine Auditorium at Mohawk Valley Community College’s Rome campus, 1101 Floyd Ave. The concert is free and open to the public.

The performance is the fifth in the eight-part Music Mondays concert series presented by the Mohawk Valley Institute for Learning in Retirement (MVILR), according to the organization’s announcement.

The Central New York-based group has performed at festivals, concerts, coffee houses and parties since the mid-1980s. Founding members Rick Kincaid and Joe Rowlands continue to play together with a variety of collaborators. For the Rome concert, they will be joined by veteran bassist John Handzel, who also plays with the Rebecca Miner trio and the Fabulous Mojos, among others.

The trio’s lineup includes:

  • Rick Kincaid: guitar, mandolin, banjo, penny whistle, melodica and vocals
  • Joe Rowlands: guitar, accordion, bones, bodhran, harmonicas and vocals
  • John Handzel: bass guitar

Rattlin’ Bog combines vocal and instrumental harmony with story songs and irreverent humor. Its music draws primarily from Celtic traditions, with a cappella sea shanties, traditional Appalachian folk, old-time gospel and occasional blues or pop also in the mix, according to the announcement.

Upcoming Music Mondays performances include bluegrass from the Ingersolls, smooth jazz from Big Tasty and the Sass, and a “Decades of Hits” program featuring Monk Rowe and John Hutson.
