Urgent Frozen Treat Recall Hits Price Chopper Stores

Frozen Treat Recall Hits Price Chopper and Market 32 Stores

Shoppers are urged to check their freezers as Outshine Fruit Bars recall faces a glass-contamination recall and two Good Humor products are pulled over incorrect nutrition labels.

Price Chopper and Market 32 shoppers should check their freezers after several popular frozen treats were recalled, including Outshine Fruit Bars that may contain pieces of glass and two Good Humor ice cream bar varieties affected by inaccurate nutrition labeling. The two recalls involve different safety concerns, and consumers should carefully check product names, UPC codes and package information before eating the products.

Outshine Fruit Bars Recalled Over Possible Glass

The more serious of the two recalls involves certain Outshine Fruit Bars and is part of the Outshine Fruit Bars recall due to safety concerns related to glass contamination.

Dreyer’s voluntarily recalled a limited number of Outshine bars after receiving consumer reports that glass had been found in the product, according to a company announcement posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Aug. 18.

The recall covers selected batches of:

  • Outshine Strawberry Fruit Bars, 6-count
  • Outshine Watermelon Fruit Bars, 6-count
  • Outshine Grape Fruit Bars, 6-count
  • Outshine Tangerine Fruit Bars, 6-count
  • Outshine Black Cherry Fruit Bars, 6-count
  • Outshine Variety Pack Fruit Bars, 24-count

Each individual bar is 2.5 ounces.

The recalled products were distributed to retailers nationwide. Market 32 and Price Chopper were among retailers reporting the affected products to customers.

How to identify the recalled Outshine products

Shoppers should not assume that every Outshine product in their freezer is affected. Dreyer’s said no other Outshine products or varieties are included in the recall.

Consumers should look at the UPC, batch code and best-before date printed on the package.

The affected UPC codes include:

  • Strawberry, 6-count: 041548610047
  • Grape, 6-count: 041548244044
  • Watermelon, 6-count: 041548413624
  • Black Cherry, 6-count: 041548000121
  • Tangerine, 6-count: 041548612041
  • Variety Pack, 24-count: 041548816678

The official FDA notice contains the complete list of affected batch codes and best-before dates. Depending on the flavor, those dates range from May through November 2027.

Because dozens of individual batch codes are involved, consumers should compare the code printed on the bottom of their package with the FDA’s complete recall notice rather than relying on the flavor alone.

What Consumers Should Do With Outshine Bars

Dreyer’s said consumers who have one of the recalled products should not eat it.

Instead, customers should either:

  1. Dispose of the recalled product safely, or
  2. Return it to the place where it was purchased for a full refund.

As of the company’s Aug. 18 announcement, no illnesses or injuries had been reported.

However, Dreyer’s advised anyone concerned that they may have been injured by the product to contact a healthcare provider immediately.

The company said the recall was initiated “out of an abundance of caution” following reports from consumers who found glass in the affected products.

Dreyer’s customer service can be reached at 800-392-4885, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

Reese’s and Almond Joy Good Humor Bars Also Recalled

A separate recall involves two frozen desserts associated with Good Humor.

The Magnum Ice Cream Company voluntarily recalled Reese’s Crunchy Peanut Ice Cream Bars and Almond Joy Ice Cream Bars after an internal review found that some nutrition information had been inaccurately listed on the cartons.

This recall is importantly different from the Outshine recall.

There is no reported glass or other contamination issue involving these two Good Humor products. The company said the ingredient and allergen information printed on the packages is correct. The problem involves nutritional information on the nutrition panel.

The affected products are:

  • Reese’s Crunchy Peanut Ice Cream Bar, 6-pack
    • UPC: 8-40473-40024-5
    • All lot codes
  • Almond Joy Ice Cream Bar, 6-pack
    • UPC: 8-40473-40029-0
    • All lot codes

The recall has been identified as a Class III recall, a classification generally used when exposure to a product is not likely to cause adverse health consequences.

Still, accurate nutrition labels matter, particularly for people who carefully track calories, carbohydrates, sodium or other nutritional values because of dietary needs.

Consumers with affected bars have been advised to return them for a refund or replacement rather than use them.

Questions about the Good Humor products can be directed to the Magnum Ice Cream Company at 1-800-634-7532.

Two Recalls, Two Different Risks

The recalls arriving close together may cause some confusion, but shoppers should understand the distinction.

Outshine Fruit Bars

Problem: Possible glass contamination
Risk: Potential physical injury
Action: Do not eat affected products. Dispose of them or return them for a refund.

Good Humor Reese’s and Almond Joy Bars

Problem: Incorrect nutrition information
Risk: The company says ingredient and allergen declarations remain correct, and the recall is classified as Class III.
Action: Return affected products for a refund or replacement.

That distinction matters because a recall does not automatically mean every product from a company or brand is unsafe.

For Outshine, only the specifically listed flavors, package sizes and batch codes are affected. Dreyer’s explicitly said other Outshine products are not included.

Why Checking the Package Matters

Food recalls often depend on highly specific manufacturing information.

A familiar brand name alone is not enough to determine whether a product has been recalled. Consumers may need to check:

  • Product name
  • Package size
  • UPC
  • Lot or batch code
  • Best-before or expiration date

This is particularly important with the Outshine recall because only particular production batches are included.

The FDA maintains a searchable database of recalls, market withdrawals and safety alerts. Its listing for Aug. 18 identifies the Outshine action as involving possible foreign-material contamination with glass.

Price Chopper and Market 32 also maintain a product recall page for customers. The grocery chain tells customers that recalled products may generally be returned to a local store for a full refund and provides a consumer-response line at 800-666-7667.

Customers who purchased recalled groceries online through Instacart should follow the retailer’s instructions for seeking refunds on online purchases.

Check Your Freezer Before Serving Frozen Treats

The safest response to a food recall is simple: take a few minutes to check the package.

Anyone with Outshine Strawberry, Watermelon, Grape, Tangerine or Black Cherry fruit bars, particularly six-count packages, should compare the UPC and batch code with the FDA recall notice before serving them.

Consumers with Reese’s Crunchy Peanut or Almond Joy Good Humor ice cream bars should also check their packages and return affected six-count products.

Food recalls can sound alarming, but detailed recall notices help consumers separate affected products from items that remain safe to purchase and eat.

For Central New York shoppers, the message is straightforward: check your freezer, read the package codes and do not consume a recalled product.
