Police identify 2 killed in crash at Syracuse Airport

Police on Thursday identified the two people who were killed in a vehicle collision early Wednesday morning at Syracuse Airport.

Driver Matthew Kneer, 50, and front passenger Christine Olmsted, 50, were traveling west on Malden Road in a Chevy van around 4:28 a.m., when the vehicle left the right side of the roadway, crashed through a perimeter fence of the airport and struck the side of a fuel tank, police said.

Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The van came to a stop adjacent to the tank, which remained intact. A Signature Air employee discovered the vehicle and notified first responders.

Police are still investigating the circumstances of the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call the Syracuse Police Department at (315) 442-5200.
