UTICA, N.Y., September 21, 2020 – Players of Utica is getting inventive with producing performances and creative content during the pandemic’s theatrical shutdown. We’ve created Players Radio Theatre productions and held a Virtual Open Mic to pass the time and fundraise, but now we’re venturing into new territory: Patreon!
Patreon is a membership platform that allows creators and artists to earn a monthly income by providing exclusive rewards and perks to their patrons. It’s also a way for Players of Utica to have an at-home subscription season while our doors remain closed. The content creation website is a tool that many arts-based creatives have used to fund projects and regular productions and more informal content. Patrons can become “Players Theatre At Home Insiders” by going to patreon.com/PlayersofUtica and subscribing for $5.99 a month.
We’ve been calling it the “Playtreon” for short, and it will be a way to bring monthly shows to our audiences, such as “Play Date with Art & Bonnie” featuring Art Felshaw and Bonnie Hibbard, full-length plays such as “Quarantine Warning from Space,” original works by local playwrights, and even some “Vintage Players” video content featuring past shows like Scrooge. Virtual musical cabarets and other new iterations of Players’ performances and events are also planned for our audience.
With the arts and entertainment world closed to the public, we’re proud to be adjusting to our organization’s changing needs in order to continue producing outstanding local theatre as the oldest continuous community theatre in New York State.
The great news is, we already have a ton of content available for our patrons to peruse as soon as they join, so they won’t have to wait to experience all of our videos and performances. Patrons of “The Playtreon” can cancel their subscription at any time, and any questions about the platform can be answered by calling us at 315-724-7624. We’ll also be adding new videos, performances, and content each month!
