PEOPLE FIRST AMERICORPS PROGRAM REFUNDED FOR 2021-2022

AMERICORPS RECRUITMENT FAIR OCTOBER 25

Central New York:  People First (Utica Municipal Housing Authority) announced today that its AmeriCorps grant has been refunded for another three year period in the amount of $281,740.   Twenty AmeriCorps members will help the long-term unemployed enter the workforce by providing job readiness training and placement services in Central New York. The funding will also enable the AmeriCorps members to provide financial literacy education, help veterans, and help place those facing homelessness in quality, affordable housing by using an evidence-based, comprehensive case management approach to poverty reduction.  People First (PF) was one of 16 programs  awarded in New York State as part of a national competition sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service, New York State Commission on National and Community Service, and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.  The program serves Oneida, Herkimer, and Madison Counties.

 

People First will launch its recruitment drive for the 2021-2022 term with a  recruitment fair on Monday, October 25 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.   It will be held in-person at the Chancellor Apartments Community Room, 417 Bleecker St. Utica, NY 13501 or online at https://www.facebook.com/PeopleFirstNY, or Zoom – https://zoom.us/j/98034598640

 

Full and half-time positions are available.  Some positions are available evenings and weekends.  AmeriCorps is a professional mentoring program in the human services.  Like Peace Corps, AmeriCorps members are paid volunteers who help to improve our community. AmeriCorps provides an opportunity to learn new skills, gain valuable work experience, help others, and serve the nation. There are nearly 40,000 AmeriCorps members serving for government and nonprofit agencies in the U.S.

Full-time AmeriCorps members are paid a living allowance of $16,000 per year.  Part-time members receive a prorated amount.  We offer a college scholarship upon completion of the program, child care, student loan forbearance, child care, and mileage reimbursement.  The amount of the college scholarship for full-time members is $6,495.00, with the amount prorated for part-time members.
