Rome, New York – Paterson Aerospace Systems (PAS) announced today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, the world’s leading organization for applied research, to collaborate on research and development efforts in the field of space sustainability.

The agreement formalizes a partnership between the U.S.-based aerospace company and the Germany-based Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, with the aim of jointly exploring future-focused solutions for maintaining the resilience and sustainability of space infrastructure. The MOU was signed in the AIS Suite at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, NY—a meaningful location that honors PAS’s roots and its Mentor-Protégé Agreement with Assured Information Security (AIS), signed nearly one year ago.

“This is more than just a partnership—it’s a shared commitment to responsible innovation,” said Kaylon Paterson, CEO at PAS. “Fraunhofer’s legacy of scientific excellence and global impact aligns perfectly with our mission to protect environmental assets and ensure a sustainable future for space operations.”

“Central New York has a vibrant and rapidly growing space research community,” said Thomas Loosen, Head of Central Office SPACE at Fraunhofer AVIATION & SPACE. “The region’s energy and technical excellence are undeniable, and we’re excited to collaborate with Paterson Aerospace to advance technologies that will help ensure a sustainable future for space operations, something that has always been at the core of Fraunhofer’s space activities.”
