Over 600 Nutcrackers Bring Holiday Magic to The History Center

UTICA, NY – A cherished Utica holiday tradition continues as Oneida County History Center announces
the opening of “The Not So Tiny Nutcracker Display.” This captivating nutcracker exhibit features over
600 intricately crafted nutcrackers from the renowned collection of former Tiny’s Grill owner, Joanne
Gerace. The exhibit will be on display from November 29, 2025, through January 10, 2026.
Visitors are invited to step into a whimsical world of holiday wonder and immerse themselves in the
stories told by each unique figure, offering the community a chance to celebrate the season with a
spectacular display of festive artistry. The exhibit also features scavenger hunts, crafts, and coloring activities.

The collection, which now numbers over 600 pieces, began over three decades ago at Tiny’s Grill in 1994
when owner Joanne Gerace purchased her first nutcracker. What started as a small, festive gesture quickly
grew into a beloved local custom. When Gerace sold the restaurant, she was eager to find a way to keep
the tradition alive for the public. The History Center stepped in to become the new home for this impressive collection.

“The nutcrackers have always been for the public to view,” said Joanne Gerace. “The History Center is an
ideal place for the nutcrackers to be displayed and continue the tradition. I couldn’t be happier to have
them displayed there.”

New for this season’s display is a series of historical nutcrackers! Visitors are invited to meet our new
friends who highlight significant figures from Oneida County history.

Located at 1608 Genesee Street, Utica, NY, Oneida County History Center is a private 501(c) (3)
